Abstract

The new media imposed by the conditions of technological determinism and the desire to reform the Arab regimes. The new media is also useful in making some developmental democratic changes. It is used to provide assistance and logistical support to the revolutions and to announce the repression of the government and the community. This study aimed to identify the role of the new media in the Syrian revolution from the perspective of the Jordanian media elite, to achieve the objectives of the study, a questionnaire was developed consisting of (18) paragraphs and verified its validity and stability. The study population consisted of (500) individuals. Total of (217) questionnaires distributed to the study sample which randomly selected and (200) survey valid for statistical analysis was retrieved, which represent (92.16%) from the distribution questionnaires. The study used several statistical methods: arithmetic averages, standard deviations, multivariate analysis, and Cronbach- alpha. The results of the study showed that the perceptions of the members of the study sample of the role of the new media in the Syrian revolution from the Jordanian media elite came to a high level. Also, there are no statistically significant differences in the perceptions of the study sample members towards the role of the new media in the Syrian revolution. In light of the results of the study, several recommendations proposed, including the political, civil and cultural institutions of the society must take care of the new media as an instrument of expression and the promotion of freedoms in the Arab world.
