Abstract

This paper is to examine how the biggest political party in Malaysia had risen and fall. The biggest dominant coalition party, The National Front, ‘Barisan Nasional’, was established during 1973, as a coalition party, consists of UMNO, MCA and MIC, as a race-based component parties. It established after the independence day of Malaysia. The rising of The National Front were ruling coalition of Malaya from 1957 to 1963, and Malaysia from 1963 to 1973. It was then became ‘Barisan Nasional’, The National Front from ‘Parti Perikatan’, The Alliance Party. The Alliance Party had won the most seats in the General Election on 1959, after Malaya had gained independence on 31 August 1957, which won 74 of the 104 seats contested. Later on, the alliance party has failed and lost the 14th General Election, 2018. The research paper investigated on the reason that contributed to the downfall of the previous government in the 14th General Election, and the rise of new coalition, and Malaysian view on the current government in regard to its performance. Secondary sources are utilised in conducting the research, such as books, journals, newspaper and other relevant materials. The findings shown that certain corrupt allegations and policies implemented by previous government as contributed heavily to the result of the 14th General Election, also other sensitive racial and religious issues had partially contributed. While the current administration is still struggling to win the heart of majority of the populace, promises were made to fulfil their manifesto despite numerous challenges confronted.
