Abstract

Education in Malaysia requires highly qualified teachers to meet the needs of the 21st century educational system. One of the key dimensions of teacher effectiveness is teaching strategies. Higher order thinking skills (HOTS) is one of the skills in teaching and learning today. HOTS is the ability to apply knowledge, skills and values in reasoning and reflection to solve problems, to make decisions, to innovate and to work on something. These skills also require teachers' understanding and input to develop or implement them in daily teaching and learning. Meanwhile, the definition of i-Think is explained through eight mind maps for its implementation. HOTS is also described for their connection to the i-Think program. As such, teachers are the group or agent of change to meet the Ministry of Education and Education Development Plan of Malaysia to enhance the country's educational performance. Through the library analysis, it is hoped to create a positive mind set among the teachers in actualizing the i-Think mind maps in schools. From this highlighted view, it indicated that teachers who are always positive will also have a positive impact on student learning outcomes and learning, whereas in learning lessons, applying own thinking skills is an approach that allows students to solve problems and engage students in active learning environments. As such, this article will further explore the importance of the i-Think application in enhancing high-level thinking skills to produce students who think creatively and critically.
