Abstract

The process of teaching and learning the skill of writing essays in Arabic language has always been a challenge either to the teachers or their students because they continuously face difficulties despite the fact that the students have been studying the subject for several years. The purpose of this article is to study the effectiveness of imitation strategy and proposed activities to solve the problems faced by the students in their Arabic writing skill. That strategy is divided into four (4) steps namely acquisition, enhancement, application and evaluation. In order to implement the steps, there were certain approaches taken for each step through the classroom activities. The method used in this study is quasi-experimental involving a sample of 16 students who is currently completing their Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM). By using the said approach, the students were given preliminary test (pre-test) and subsequent test (post test) to examine the level of improvement on the ability of the students in writing Arabic essays. Findings were analyzed using “Wilcoxon” test to compare the results of the pre-test and the post-test. The results of the study have demonstrated the effectiveness of imitation strategy and its approaches in enhancing and improving the skills of writing essays in Arabic language. These strategies are suggested to be practiced by the teachers in their classroom activities.
