Abstract

Child marriage is not a new debate within our society today. Different understanding and tendencies in interpreting the laws on this issue has sometimes led to conflicts in our society. The discussion regarding child marriage is closely related to the issues of puberty according to Islamic law as well as the readiness of the child for sexual intercourse and the approaches taken by Malaysia government in order to tackle such issue. The result of this study shows that the advantages and disadvantages of child marriage and the legal approaches should be taken by the government and Shariah court.
